Cairo born, Sydney raised and London based, Joseph Tawadros AM, 34, is a composer and virtuoso player of the Oud, a Middle Eastern lute.
Joseph’s music brings middle-eastern, classical and jazz together seamlessly.
His drive to push musical boundaries has inspired his solid repertoire of innovative, totally original music. An independent recording artist, Joseph has received 14 ARIA nominations and 4 ARIA Awards.
He has collaborated with acclaimed US jazz artists including John Abercrombie, Christian McBride, John Patitucci, Bela Fleck and Jack DeJohnette and in Australia plays with with Matt McMahon, James Tawadros and Karl Dunnicliff.
Joseph performs solo, in jazz groups and orchestras. Recently this includes BBC Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Ukrainian National Orchestra and his Concerto for Oud and Orchestra premiered with Melbourne Symphony in 2017. He performed a solo concert at the BBC Proms, London in July 2018.
