During the 20 years of its history the Ukrainian Chamber Orchestra originally named “Kyiv Soloists” has been a strong ambassador of Ukrainian culture and talent.
Founded in 1963, the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra has an honored place among the chamber ensembles of the world. The members of the ensemble are accomplished musicians bound together by their discipline and their highest level of musicianship and artistic performance.
From 2017 Valeriy Sokolov is the guest leader and an artistic advisor of the Orchestra. Valeriy Sokolov, is one of the most outstanding young artists of his generation. Working regularly with the world’s leading orchestras, he has enjoyed collaborations with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Cleveland Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Rotterdam Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic, NAC Ottawa, Orchestre National de France and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. He works frequently with conductors including Vladimir Ashkenazy, David Zinman, Susanna Malkki, Andris Nelsons, Peter Oundjian, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Vasily Petrenko, Herbert Soudant & Juraj Valcuh.
At 34, Joseph Tawadros is established as one of the world’s leading oud performers and composers. Joseph is a prolific composer who has recorded 14 albums of his own works, all of which have been nominated for or won an ARIA award. He is a virtuoso oud player of great diversity and sensitivity and performs in concert halls worldwide – known for his brilliant technique, deep musicianship and joyous style of performance.
He is a regular guest artist with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and has performed his own compositions with Academy of Ancient Music in London and the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the BBC Proms in Dubai. In 2017 Joseph premiered his Concerto for Oud and Orchestra with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
A resident of Sydney since 1986, Joseph was nominated for Young Australian of the Year in 2014, received the NSW Premier’s medal for Arts and Culture in the same year and was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (AM) for his services to music and composition in 2016.
