‘The Virtue Of Signals’
With 8 ARIA awards under his belt, Joseph Tawadros has found new sounds and musical territory with each release.
For his 21st album, Tawadros plays the Oud and cello, with two of his former collaborators: Australia’s acclaimed jazz pianist, Matt McMahon and percussion wizard James Tawadros.
Rounding off the quartet is the extraordinarily sensitive improviser, Gary Daley on accordion.
Featuring soulful, reflective and meditative pieces alongside more upbeat and joyful compositions, this is an album full of musical surprises and deep emotion.
Performed with a high degree of musicianship, evoking nostalgia and cinematic imagery, this is a moving and exhilarating set of compositions. The Virtue of Signals features unique instrumentation and is an instrumental album – yet is accessible and appealing for a wide range of listeners.
Joseph Tawadros composed these pieces for the documentary ‘A Memory Film: A Filmmaker’s diary’ (2023) directed by Jeni Thornley.
